Famous primeval carved
petroglyphs of Onega Lake are surely hidden from strange eyes on the
most removed shore of the lake. There are only three ways to reach this
unique masterpiece of primeval art: by boat or by off-road vehicle along
a road in an extremely bad condition even by Russian standards or on
foot. The last possibility means 20 kilometers of hard hiking along the
lake shore from the nearest village of Shala. However despite of its
removed location far away from the civilization the Onega petroglyphs
once already were inscribed in the UNESCO's list of world heritage sites
in danger. ![]() 1. Primeval carved petroglyph known as 'Crime and Punishment of the Frog' at the Peri Nos Cape. ![]() 2. Petroglyphs at the Peri Nos Cape. ![]() 3.
